Biography

Dr. Maja comes from a Ghanaian and Nigerian family and grew up in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, just outside of Philadelphia. He moved to the city to attend the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated with a major in the Biological Basis of Behavior and a minor in Healthcare Management. At UPenn, Dr. Maja worked in an ophthalmology and gene therapy lab, specializing in the development of treatments for inherited retinal diseases.

After graduating from Penn, Dr. Maja spent two years serving as an AmeriCorps VISTA, working in public high schools in Philadelphia to facilitate in- and after-school tutoring in addition to helping students navigate post-secondary options. Dr. Maja then started medical school at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, where he met peer and faculty mentors, who continued to fuel his passion for ophthalmology, community health, and mentorship. Dr. Maja elected to take an additional academic year at Geisel to pursue research related to the Zoster Eye Disease Study (ZEDS) and an international ophthalmology opportunity in Accra, Ghana.

In his free time, Dr. Maja enjoys playing sports, particularly soccer and tennis, as well as making music. He loves social gatherings, whether that be game nights, chatting over lunch, or finding new things to do in Seattle. He is very excited to explore the Pacific Northwest during ophthalmology residency.
