Biography
Dr. Ryan Gabbard was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. He graduated summa cum laude from Wright State University with a degree in Biomedical Engineering. As part of his undergraduate and master’s studies, Dr. Gabbard collaborated with the United States Air Force on a research project involving eye-tracking technology and cognitive workload. This early exposure to the interface between vision science and human performance sparked his interest in the complexities of ocular function, laying the foundation for his eventual pursuit of ophthalmology.
He earned his medical degree from the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University. During medical school, Dr. Gabbard became further drawn to ophthalmology through firsthand experiences in observing the transformative effects of sight-restoring surgeries and orbital reconstruction. These encounters solidified his passion for a field that combines precision, innovation, and meaningful impact on patients’ quality of life.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Gabbard enjoys hiking, fishing, and playing basketball.
